The South Asian Community Centre for Education and Research (SACCER) Trust was formed in 1993 to engage in several educational and research activities. The SACCER Trust is registered with the Government of Tamil Nadu (No. 17/13/1/93)
OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY AND METHODOLOGY:
Education is “not to know but to be.” This “being” education has little to do with scoring marks or securing ranks. It is, in fact, a quest for self-actualization. Discovering one’s own innate skills and talents and uniqueness, developing a healthy curiosity and awareness about contribution to the society are integral parts of this personal enlightenment. Academic excellence is important but it is only a means to be the larger end.
In our turbulent world threatened by intolerance, indifference, bigotry and violence, we have the added responsibility of making the children and youth mindful of reverence for life, respect for difference, and regard for rights and dignity of the other. It would be an added violence on our part to leave the youth unprepared and helpless for life in this world. They should be prepared to exercise their rights of others. They should know the working of public institutions, be acquainted with conflict resolution methods and participate in the cultured life of the community and in public affairs.
Special care will be taken for the overall personality development of the students. No culture will be kept as the model culture here. The youth will be participating in an open environment where the various cultures have opportunity to interact with each other. Every effort will be made to have the students rooted in their own local cultures. Each and every program- both curricular and extra-curricular would be planned very carefully with research to enrich this cross-cultural education and inter-cultural setting.
The SACCER is perceived to impart general education with special emphasis on South Asian regional awareness and understanding and to engage in research to carry out his task efficiently through both formal and non-formal educational means. The educational programs and activities of the SACCER Trust will seek to help the children, older students and youth:
cherish their childhood and youth for holistic and harmonious growth,
discover themselves and identify their talents and strengths,
improve their communication and social skills,
think for themselves and choose their roles in the society proactively,
nurture peace and reconciliation in families and communities smaller and larger,
strive for diversity, democracy, human rights and dignity,
engage in life-long, life-wide and life-deep education.
